MARCUS GARVEY
DAY 2026

Aburi Mountains, Under The AncesTree

Our AncesTree:
Our Roots
& Culture

Marcus Garvey’s Earthday is special every year — but this year, we dare to take “special” to a whole other level. For our 3rd Annual Marcus Garvey Day, we’re bringing it home — to our land, deep in the Aburi mountains, way above the city’s smog, yet under what we call the AncesTree.

This year, we’re unveiling a tree that overlooks all the trees in Ghana — a living elder that has stood the test of time for over 500 years. Let that sit with you. This tree was already ancient when our ancestors were being taken from this soil. It was a source of strength, respite, and rest for many of them — and today it remains standing proof of not only our will to survive, but to thrive in the land of our forefathers.

This tree and the grounds on which it stands are sacred.

In our effort to protect it from loggers, while making it accessible to fellow tree-lovers and truth-seekers, we decided to create a space befitting its reverence — a space dedicated to the veneration of our Ancestors. And yes, that’s plural — because following this event, we will continue to honour other great Ancestors under this tree. That is why we call it the AncesTree.

What To Expect

We’re about nation-building, so we foster family-friendly spaces with activities for all ages. Our hidden agenda? To create an atmosphere conducive to the recalibration of our starved souls.

The grounds are vast — allowing for sections dedicated to chess, arts & crafts, martial arts, archery, ping pong, hammocking, storytelling circles, drumming, and of course — dancing. But know this — you’re stepping onto sacred Earth. So be prepared to shed your shoes and do some grounding as well.

Ital food, fresh juices, coconut water, and pastries will be on sale — along with handcrafted goods from a variety of talented local artisans. Come hungry, leave full — in body and spirit.

What Not To Expect

Our gathering will be speech-free and preach-free. This is not school. This is not church.  This is a gathering with the best DJs  spinning  the best Reggae music — the kind that teaches, heals, and uplifts. You do the talking — catching up with loved ones, making new loved ones, or building business relations.

There is no entry fee — not because this event could happen for free, but because the leaders in our community shared this vision and contributed to the costs, so we don’t have to tax you at the gate. This is what nation-building looks like in real time.

Vending

Our events consistently present a unique opportunity to feature your brand or services before conscious consumers who value quality, originality, and purpose. This year, given the nature of our new gathering grounds, we’re hand-selecting our vendors to ensure the right fit for the frequency we’re setting.

Marcus Garvey Day 2025

Marcus Garvey Day 2024

The Seed Was Planted. The Tree Is Growing.

What started as a seed is becoming a tradition. August 16th, we gather again to celebrate the vision of the Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey — with roots music, Ital food, family, and the kind of energy that stays with you long after the day ends. If this speaks to you, it's because it was meant for you. See you soon.
